OFFICIALLY SEVENTEEN

Hello there,welcome back!

I celebrated my birthday this year in the Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora! It's a really special place where we dine in front of a huge aquarium filled with marine animals! The ambiance is nice, great food and awesome company! I'll share and review about the food we had in a while! ^^

My parents ordered the 6 course set dinner [$168] while my siblings and I ordered the 4 course set [$118]. They do sell all the food individually as well, but ordering the set makes it more worth it!

A welfie before the food arrives~

Kuehpieti with Lobster Bisque
This is a complimentary dish specially created by the chef. Fusion dish which combines both Peranakan and french cuisine! Crispy shell, creamy soup with bits of lobster meat in it, yumm!

 42 °C Sous Vide Salmon [$28]
Consisting of salmon tartare, citrus minestrone, ikura and fennel!

Chilled Watermelon & Tomato Gazpacho [$24]
Smoked Hokkaido scallop is of a nice texture with the watermelon sorbet giving it a refreshing twist!

 Crispy Duck Foie Gras [$28]
Oh gosh, melt in your mouth foie gras with the crispy brick pastry, PERFECTION!!

 Smoked Eel [$28]
Sunchoke texture with duck foie gras terrine, taste like canned tuna... Nahh~~ Plus i still can't figure out what is that white thingy at the bottom!

 Rougie Duck Breast [$55]
As it's not fully cooked, the texture is really chewy. My brother said he took a long time just to eat one small piece of meat, HAHA not for weak! The yuzu-sweet potato puree taste weird to me too~

Crispy Skin Barramundi [$52]
Just a piece of very dry sea bass with green pepper broth. Do not recommend you to order this when you're there! Plus you will be eating the cousins of the fishes in front of them!! O.o

 Beef Wagyu Ribeye MS6 [$118]
Rare cooked beef, the perfect doneness! Seared with still 75% red through the centre, resulting in a tender and juicy meat! Many do not dare to try rare beef, but its actually the best doneness for a good piece of steak! Paired with parmesan mash, mushroom duxcele and smoked onion puree, IT'S SO GOOD!! The brown powder there is cep "soil" which I have absolutely no idea what that is.

 Green & Red [$24]
Don't waste your money eating french toast there! I can even make a tastier one at home. :/ The strawberry sorbet isn't good either~

Mont Blanc [$20]
Now this is what you called dessert!! Brandy, chestnut paste, hazelnut meringue with vanilla bean ice-cream, this is the best mont blanc i ever had!! Not too sweet yet still a nice treat for dessert! The piece at the bottom had a texture tart but taste like a cake! I LOVE IT OMG!! I even ate half of my sister's potion cuz she's too full already! <333333

There is still a Lobster Dumpling & Croquette and Citrus Refresh included in my parent's set dinner but i didn't manage to snap a photo of them!

And because its my birthday, they gave us a complimentary cake!! Doesn't taste good but must take cuz free marh~ *So Singaporean*

We also brought our own cake actually! HAHA Cuz my mum say if don't have birthday cake don't look like birthday celebration, so we got a small one! Note that no outside food is allowed to be consumed inside the restaurant, so we just took it out for photo taking~ hehe

As usual, all atas restaurant has dim lighting, thus, photos taken were quite grainy!

Another family photo with the gorgeous background!

Come my blog of course must have my selfie right? So heres one! HAHA BHB LEVEL MAX

Overall, they serves really delicious food with great ambiance. Cost wise, it's quite overprice! But they spend so much money to built the tank, buy the fishes, so need cover cost marh! HAHA You should come and experience if you are having any special occasion! Definitely a great experience that would last a lifetime. :')

'Tis the season to be jolly~

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas everyone! It's my favourite festival of the year! But sadly, this year, my family had no plans for a Christmas party... :( So I decided to bake something to have more Christmas vibes!

I spent a long long time thinking and planning what to bake~ Don't want to be mainstream and bake a yule log. Cookies were quite heaty too... And therefore, I decided to bake a carrot cake w cream cheese! Hehe!

Google, Instagram and Pintrest for loads of ideas! Screenshot nice cakes, gorgeous background and beautiful decorations. Trying to get as much inspirations before I plan on my own cake!

Wanted to garnish with rosemary but it's OOS at both NTUC and Cold storage. T^T But there will always be plan B! So... I went over to my neighbors garden and borrowed some mint leaves! He even gave me a stalk for me to grow my own mint! *yay*

This carrot cake recipe is really moist and fluffy! It's very versatile as well! Like nuts in your cake? Add 1/2 cup of walnuts! Like coconuts? Then add em in too! Don't have buttermilk? Add 1/2 tbp vinegar into your milk and let it sit for 5 mins! Simple as that! ^^

Did a little watercolour of a Christmas wreath as well!

Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting <3 (adapted from DivasCanCook, edited by me)
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder (double acting)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups carrots, finely shredded
Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 4 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • ½ cup confectioners sugar (may need more to thicken if desired)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 170 degreeC or 350 F.
  2. Grease and flour 2 (8-inch) cake pans. Set aside
  3. In a large bowl cream together oil, sugars, and eggs. Set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk.
  6. Mix just until fully combined. (careful not to over mix)
  7. Fold in shredded & pureed carrots, coconut flakes and vanilla extract.
  8. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until center is set. (do not over bake!)
  10. Place pans on a cooling racks.
  11. While cakes are cooling prepare the frosting by first creaming together the butter and cream cheese.
  12. Add in the confectioners sugar and vanilla extract.
  13. Mix until silky and creamy. Add more sugar if a thicker texture is needed.
  14. When cakes are cooled remove them from pans and frost.

Hope you can try them out! It's a recipe loved by both my family and I! I reduced the amount of sugar so that they will not be so sweet but still enough to let the cake stay moist and soft!

Once again, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND CHEERS TO A GREAT NEW YEAR AHEAD!

TRICK-OR-TREAT 2015

Wooooh~ Its HALLOWEEN!!! A day where people gets to dress up as zombies, monsters and even famous characters asking for treats from door to door! Of course, its hard to see such a scene in Singapore... But this year, i found out that Woodgrove estate in Woodlands actually had a yearly halloween trick-or-treat event!!

So... we decided to go check out the event guising as a group of ZOMBIESSSSS!!!
Are we zombie enough?

Grrrrrrrrrr
We scare children, sang Let it go behind Elsa and do trick or treating with plastic bags! (cuz we're homeless zombies! HAHA)

The housing there all decorated their house incredibly! Jack O lanterns, vampires, spider webs, you name it, they has it! The atmosphere is awesomse! But it would be better if theres some scary music accompanying us!

And this sums up my first Halloween experience in Singapore! Will definitely come here yearly with this bunch of zombies (other character next time!) and do more trick or treating! YAY

Fruitful month, literally

Hey there! As the title reads, this post will be gonna be about fruits! I eat fruits everyday after dinner as it serves as an refreshing healthy dessert! But this month, i decided to include them into my bakes and my breakfast!

First and foremost, APPLES! Its fall now and apples seem like the right fruit for this season! So i baked an apple pie with lattice design on top! Definitely needs more improvement but it was still great for a first timer ya?
Pardon my ugly leg there... Kinda ruin the pre bake pic! ><

TADAHH~~ (note to self: Use lesser egg white for the brushing to have a more golden coloured surface)

Next on the list, APPLE ROSES! These are all over Youtube, Pinterest, Facebook and everywhere! They are super easy to make and super pretty as well!

MOIST BANANA BREAD <3

You just can't resist a moist banana bread sitting infront of you! I didn't even wait for it to cool completely before i start slicing (nobody got time for that right?) And before i realised, its already half gone!! HAHAH

Anyway, i made a crumble for the bread too and i failed badly. Used too much butter and too little flour.. Will definitely try again as crumble is bae~
This recipe is a keeper:

- 1 1/4 cup mashed bananas
- 2 cups AP flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp double acting baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 scant (less than full) cup white sugar*
- 1/2 cup brown sugar*
- 8 tbsp butter (120g)
- 2 eggs
-1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk

160 degree celcius for 1hour :)

*adjust to your own liking
Just a close up picture of the crumbs. Can you see how moist and fluffy it is already?

BREAKFAST TIME!!
Chocolate oat with sliced apples, chia seeds, strawberries and granola!

Chocolate oat with cookie butter, figs, kiwis, banana, apples, granola and chia seeds!

Last but not least, PANCAKE!!

Cinnamon almond milk chia oat pancakes. This is really healthy! I made another serving for my bro and he said he prefer the white pancakes. (Me too!) But it's still a great way to eat pancakes with lesser guilt!
Gonna share the recipe too incase i forget!

- 1/2 cup oat flour (i blend my oat in a blender)
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp sugar (to your liking)
- 1/8 tsp cinnamom
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 egg (minus 1 tsp of white)
- 100 ml almond milk (fresh milk is fine)
- 1 tbsp oil/butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

Yield: 4 pancakes :)

Those are my creation for the month! Hope to have more personal food post in the future! SAYONARA~~
